It's autumn – again

So it is this time of year again. Once again I am going to start yet another semester at university. And this is second time I am starting that in two universities. I just finished looking for courses that I am going to take this autumn and my studying is going to look busy, once again. But this time I am actually going to manage to finish all my courses and be a huge step closer of my bachelor’s degree… But it is not going to be easy, for example on mondays I am going to spend at university from 10am until 9pm, a long day. I am going to finish couple of missing computer science courses, try to finish my mathematical studies and try to finish my minor subjects. That’s all that is required to finish my bachelor’s degree. But let’s see what is going to happen…

But this autumn is going to be a little bit different from last year’s, because I return to teaching job. I was lucky and I was picked to keep exercises of basic programming course. I am really looking forward of that. The teaching part is not going to be hard, just a really simple Java programming but the challenge is going to be how to get everybody to actually understand everything and get everybody to interest of programming – there is going to be students that have never programmed before. This is going to be interesting autumn… And of course, it is nice to get some money also :)

First day

Today was my first day at the real company. It was interesting to notice how things can be so much different from previous experiences that I had starting working in the university or my friend’s company. Well, all little things that made me think that I was welcome and expected to start working there. And it is really nice that everything is already ready (or almost ready), I will get my laptop tomorrow and the work phone should be available in the next week… Something totally different than when I started to work at university now the last time, I had to talk myself to get a really old computer that I could use to working… Or in my friend’s company where I never even got a computer which I could use to working, I had to use my own laptop…
After all, and after one day, this job seems to be a really nice place to work. Well, of course we have to get back to that after I know better what I should do during this summer but at this point, this just feels so much better than previous working experiences. Right from the start.

Summer…

It really starts to feel like it is going to be summer soon… There is really warm now outside, sun shines and it is getting so green when I look around.
A month ago, in the end of April my work in the university ended, once again. At that time I was told that there might be some more work to do, but like it is easy to guess, I haven’t heard nothing since… So I had to try to find something else to do in the summer. I was quite certain that I fould not find anything for a summer because it was already May and all summerjobs are usually already assigned quite early. But for my big surprise Nokia was still searching for a few summer trainees and I actually applied for a one job. But for my even bigger surprise, I was selected to come to interview for that job… And even bigger surprise was when I was notified that I got that job!
So, now in the Monday morning I will take a bus (actually two, but details…) to Hervanta and start working there… I am not quite sure still what actually my job will be but I am quite sure that I will have interesting times ahead.

Missing time

Balance of life. Balancing time between studies and work.
Yeah, those are my blog’s headlines, and now I would really need all those. This spring is going to be busy, busy and more busy than I ever thought. My work is currently about writing my Pro Gradu which is nice that I get paid for writing but it isn’t always so nice. I have noticed that writing my gradu isnät going so well at the moment. It is difficult to just get started, to get anything cleaver and smart text out of my mind to the document. I know that it is mostly just the lack of starting but it is that starting the process that is difficult. For some reason I just haven’t managed to get myself to correct state of mind.
And the funny part is that the actual writing process is going to be quite easy for me because I have quite clear image of what I should write in what chapter. I’ve got all chapters already planned and now all I just need to do is write and write some more. If I just managed to get myself to write and write well.
Trying to study some missing courses at the same time is not going to make writing process any easier. It is really annoying when you need to go to classes all the time. Why all lectures has to be in the middle of the day always? Just to make sure that no-one is able to work and study at the same time? Make sure that if you try to work with something you just get interrupted all the time when you need to go to classes?
Well, this spring is really going to be a tough lesson how to balance time properly between studies, work, photography, relaxing and free-time. I hate to admit but I haven’t had time for a photography for a long long time. Last week I finally bought a new tripod and now I can finally take some more macro photos, at least it is easier but if I just had more time to do all what I want or need to do.
And what I do now? Instead of writing my gradu, reading for exams, thinking of logic programs or being outside and take photos of snowy city I just sit in my office and writing to my blog…

Back to working

Yesterday was the the first day in my new job. After a couple month of being full-time student, I am back in the work life now.

I currently work in Departments of Computer Sciences, University of Tampere and I work in XML-related research project.

Photo report

Today came out a new issue of Aviisi, a local student newspaper. In this episode is my first photo report ever published in newspaper, well actually first photo report I have ever made.
Photo report was made about a local student event, Kaupunkisuunnistus, where freshmans (and sometimes some older students also) travels through the city from one control point to another, making some tasks in every control point.
It was really funny to watch and I also got some quite nice photos.

Mikian Photography

About a week ago my registration was accepted. From now on I run my own business. After a long thinking I just decided to name company to Mikian Photography. Yes, I know that it a little bit boring and does not describe my IT possibilities but I didn’t came up anything better.
Anyway, my business is now running and active. Now all tha is left is actually sell some photos :)

Freedom?

I made today something that I have been thinking about for a some time for now. I resigned my job.
For a while I have been thinking that my current job doesn’t give much for me. No new challenges, no education, it is just same day after day. And when my duties has been slowly changed from systems administration to almost full-time PHP coding, I just decided that it is better for me and my future if I resign and take year off to study.
I guess my decision means that I really need to study in this academic year…

Photos for sale

Few weeks ago I wrote that my photos has been accepted to the photo agency, Sodapix. Contract papers has been signed and delivered, I have uploaded first set of my photos to service.
Since then I have been waiting, when my photos will appear to sales portal. Finally, yesterday I noticed them there. Now I just can wait for someone to actually buy those. Someone has already watched my photos (top photo has seven clicks registered) but hasn’t bought yet any photo.

Planning studies

University studies are starting soon, in the begin of September. I have been already looking for interesting and mandatory courses. And like every other year, I still cannot understand, why almost all courses seems to be lectured between 10:00 and 14:00.
This year I have decided to put more my effort to studies, trying to get as much of my bachelor’s degree ready as possible. I have been too lazy for couple past years and now I have to do a little catchup.
This year I try also get my secondary subject’s quite done, I tried to start reading biotechnology last year, but I ran out of time then and was never able to finish course. Maybe this year is a different…
It seems that this autumn is not going to quite easy. Although I am planning to reduce my working to minimal, I still have probably too many courses to involve and photographing.
And of course, keeping this blog up-to-date would also need some of my time.
