Vanishing history
Something today made me really thinking about our history and what it means today. And results are actually little bit scary.
We all have been sitting on the history classes during our school times, reading all more or less interesting stories about ancient Egypt, dark middle ages and horrors of wars. This all has been possible because there has been notes, books, poems, letters left to us to read, to learn, to study.
But what happens today? Something happens, it is posted to Twitter or as Facebook status. Our thoughts are not anymore in the corners of book pages but posted as notes on Facebook or to blog. Everything is more and more just abstract information somewhere and something concrete just doesn't exists anymore. When was last time you have been writing real letter to anyone? Instead of email? Thought so...
Everything is fine as long everything works nicely. But what happens when something closes, goes to bankrupt, huge mistake in administration? Geocities was popular place to put personal webpages and I remember during my school finding there a lots of fan pages from television series and about everything. But last October it was closed down and the result - all pages are gone, disappeared. When someones leaves Facebook, it is nice and a good thing that all content that this person has been uploaded to Facebook is removed as well, but what it really means is that that part of history vanishes. As like that has never happened. All notes and thoughts about events, all photos from anything, all thoughts that has been putted as status, it is all gone. What is left to future generations to study is just nothing.
There is some cultures in the history that we know absolutely nothing, we know that they have existed but who they were, what they did, why they disappeared, nothing. Nothing at all, because they left nothing behind. And what is going to happen to us – same thing, there is not going to be a lot of anything to remember, no photos, no thoughts, no ideas... Modern world can have some downsides also...
Photo per day
I hope that some of you still remembers my small project that took in place between April 2008 and April 2009 - the small project when I posted one photo everyday. Well, for some reason I really liked this project and have been feeling a little bit empty not having it around all the time so I am going to do it again next year, but with small modifications. First, this time it is going to start right from the January 1st and not in the April and second, last time I posted mostly photos that I took in the last weekend, this time I am trying really hard to post only photos that I have taken in the very same day.
I hope that you are going to enjoy my photos during this project, the project is going to take it's place in http://www.mikian.com/365photos.
100
I was just looking administration interface of Wordpress and checking tags of old posts when I suddenly noticed one small thing, last post was my 100s post on this blog. It seems somehow amazing that I have already posted 100 posts here, I have been so lazy to post anything for most of the time but still I have clearly managed to post enough. It is not so much, only hundred posts since January 2006. A lot has happened during this time this blog has been alive and, sometimes I feel that I am different person that I was when I started to write to this blog. When I started to blog, for example, I had no dreams at all to go to study abroad and during this summer I did that. I was working in a small company at that time, and a lot has happened with my career since that. It is interesting to read old posts and remembering what all happened during those times when I was writing everything.
I have no idea how many persons actually reads this blog, some statistics says that I have not so many readers. I hope that reading my hundred posts so far has been interesting enough - let's wait and see what next 100 posts will bring and when I have wrote next hundred posts...
-15°C
Finally we have real winter weather, really cold weather. It is so nice after a year again feel freezing wind on your face, all problems when you are trying to take photos while wearing so much clothes that you just cannot handle camera properly... But it is always so worth of it, the photos are always just so amazing...
Small city photographing
It has been a long time since last time I have just taking my camera with me and just left to somewhere. Way too long... But yesterday I got good enough reason just left Tampere and I ended up in Valkeakoski bus station with my camera; that was my first visit to that city and it was interesting place. There was not so much anything but somehow it felt nice little city after all. But I found it really interesting how all finnish smaller cities that I have been somehow seems so similar, buildings are little bit same looking and same kind and the spirit you get when walking there for the very first time is quite same. They all seems so peaceful nice small cities
I really should get out from Tampere more often - not just for some nice photos but for some nice experiences too. Specially if they all could be as great and nice as yesterday was...
Sports were in really big part of Valkeakoski, there was football stadiums everywhere, only the size changed from smaller ones to that big one (where the lightning hit one player few years ago...). The sports seemed to be though the only thing that was bringing maybe some tourist to there, I somehow suspect that it is not so big tourist place...
What would be my photo traveling without the photo from the sunset. This time I was watching sunset on the lake, sitting on the shore and looking over the frozen surface of the lake. The snow on the ice was full of small sparkles of ice and while watching the sunset it was possible to see rainbow on the ice.
First snow
We got finally our first real snowing on friday. On thursday night we got some snow already but it wasn't until friday evening when we got what I have been waiting for - the real snowing. When the air is nothing but falling snowflakes, it is dark, little bit windy and all you can see is snowflakes flickering in the street lights.
It is weird how I always forget during the other seasons - during the summer how I always miss that view. But then when first snowflake is slowly floating towards the ground - it all just comes back to my mind. All the reasons why I still think that winter is the best season. And the best part is when you are on your bicycle and trying to not to fall down... It is not so easy task to do when you have still your old summer tires on the bike... But it was fun ![]()

Follow the white line
Last night I got a great idea of going to cycle in the middle of night. When it was dark, windy and it felt like there was almost little bit of rain in the air - in other words just quite nice autumn-like weather. This was my first time cycling in the dark in this autumn and have to say that it was just so great. It has just so different feeling when you are alone in the streets, just trying to follow your headlamp light... And because I was cycling in the middle of night, I was practically all alone there, there was just a few cars in the roads. It was so quiet and nice.
In the middle of my trip I just encountered weird white line in the street that just went somewhere. It was weird because it was painted first in the pavement, then on the street, then it went across the school yard... So what I did - of course I started to follow it... It took a while until I understood that it was the Varala marathon route marking, which was better than good for me because I was actually heading to near to Varala to see nightly view of city. So just following weird white line and I ended up exactly where I wanted
But the view wasn't so great than I was thought, it was nice but not so nice. So still searching for a great nightly view from the city... Tips are accepted...
Flying
A little bit over a week ago I made my second flight - when I was flying back to Finland. This time I was also flying with Turkish Airlines - but this time my flight was in the night and in the morning. It was long night and because I am not good at sleeping in new places and flying was just too interesting, so I wasn't sleeping in the plane, just napping a little bit. So when I got home, I was quite sleepy...
But flying at night was nice, and seeing sunrise from the plane - amazing. Unfortunately I wasn't at the window seat so I wasn't able to take photos os that... ![]()
Food was not so good this time, I actually only had two breakfasts. Two times scrambled eggs... Good thing that it was good
