First Week of School

First week of school is now over (yay, I have Fridays free for the whole semester). And have to admit, it was little bit different than I expected. So far every lecture has been courses first lectures, meaning that teacher explains general things but then, unlike in Finland, the lecture ended. I am used to that in Finland, after all boring general stuff is done, lecturer just continues to the real stuff and starts teaching. But that doesn’t seem been the case here; which is weird as this week it is possible to change and drop courses. So in a way this week it is possible to test courses and to see if they are interesting or not – expect that I still have no idea about courses what they are going to be like. Well, a little bit, some of my courses seems really interesting, and I really hope that teacher is able to keep lectures interesting enough. Specially Modern Korean History seems really interesting subject and I would really like to know more about Korea.

Here in every lecture so far, teacher has said aloud our names and checked who is there and who is absent. So far it has been always such a fun moment, as teachers always speak Korean names really, really fast and then I know usually very well when my name is next as usually paper comes closer to eyes, teacher is quiet quite a long time (compared time taken to read next Korean name) and then teacher tries to pronounce my name, which can be almost anything. But one common things so far in pronunciation, every time it has been slow :D

I have been here already three and half days, and so far pretty great. Haven’t done yet so much anything, but then, I haven’t been here even a week yet, and I will have time, there is no rush to trying to do everything at once :D The really spicy Korean food is still waiting for tasting, cold noodles I have already tasted, from Finnish point of view, noodles served in the ice water seems weird, but that was really good. And my buddy had such a fun with me as for me, eating noodles with chopsticks is not the easiest task (yet).

First day in school was memorable, it was really interesting feeling when I was just walking inside of campus and saw just girls, a lot of them. I felt so different at that time, and also as everybody else was Korean and I was only nordic person around. But today when I was only man in my courses, it didn’t felt so different anymore, I think that is is easy to get used to everything :) But other students seems really nice, some of them seems to be little bit shy, but few ones has already just approached me to say hello; and for some reason everybody seems to know exchange student from last year, I wonder what she has been doing here :D

  1. What classes are you taking? Sounds like the school is starting well over there! And by the way, thanks for sharing the pics.

    • International relations in Northeast Asia, Mass media and society, Korean language for foreigners I, Advertising and promotion strategy and Korean history. So far only International relations hasn’t started yet, hopefully it also seems interesting :)
And of course I share pics, a lot of them! Just wait for more…

  2. It’s too hard to fail to notice a Nordic girl there and maybe that’s the reason everybody knows here.

Be careful with your behavior. :D

    • Haha, I actually found out later that she studied really ell and got really great grades from all courses, maybe that’s the reason…
And sure, of course, you know me, I’m always careful with my behavior… ;)
